While visiting Hughenden on the
visit Porcupine Gorge National Park and Mount Walker Lookout. Lying on the bank of the Flinders River in town Robert Gray Memorial Park is a nice spot to pull up for a bite to eat or to stretch your legs.

Robert Gray Memorial Park - On the bank of the Flinders River (Kennedy Dev. Rd). 20’50’377 S, 144’12’158 E. The park has a walking track, information, bins, shaded picnic tables, free electric BBQ’s, toilets and taps.
Flinders Discovery Centre and Info. Centre - Located in the centre of town. 20’50’588 S, 144’12’042 E
Mount Walker Lookouts - Standing 480m above sea level the lookouts are 10km south of the Flinders Highway just east of town (well signposted) 20’56’523 S, 144’11’884 E There are a number of lookouts with viewing chairs that provide 360 degree views. You will also find picnic tables if you feel like a picnic lunch or dinner as the sun sets. The road up to the lookouts is unsuitable for caravans.
White Mountains National Park - On the Flinders Hwy 108 km E of town, 28km SW of Pentland. In the Great Dividing Range (550m above sea level). 20’42’860 S, 145’13’482 E Pull up for a bite to eat or to stretch your legs and enjoy the view. Picnic table and bins.

Porcupine Gorge National Park
Access to this spectacular national park is via the Kennedy Development Road between Hughenden and The Lynd. The unsealed road to the park is suitable for conventional vehicles and caravans except after heavy rain when the road may be temporarily closed. Call 07 4741 1288 (Flinders Shire Council) if in doubt.
The Gorge Lookout is 63km N of town. There is a short wheelchair accessible (with assistance) walk from the car park to the lookout.
Pyramid Camp - The camp has 22 self registration sites that are suitable for tents, caravans and trailers, fees apply. It is a good idea to pre-book if you plan to camp during school holidays or long weekends (or just to be safe). The camping area has tap water, disabled toilets, cold showers, picnic areas and park info. 20’20’670 S, 144’27’615 E
Pyramid Lookout– A fairly easy 400m return walk from the day use and camping area.
Pyramid Track - This 2.5km return walk from the camping area down into the gorge and back is a bit tougher going with a fair few steps, but worth the effort. Allow a couple of hours to fully enjoy the walk, scenery and wildlife.
