4. Clem Walton Park/ Lake Corella - 45 km east of Mt Isa, 75 km west of Cloncurry, 2 km south of the Barkly Highway through gate. Take the left road at the dam to access Clem Walton Park. Toilets, shaded picnic areas and riverfront Central West Camping. 20’ 48’ 014 S, 139’ 59’ 789 E

5. Fountain Springs Rest Area - 60 km east of Mt Isa, 60 km west of Cloncurry on the Barkly Hwy. Toilets, picnic tables, BBQ. 20’ 48’ 014 S, 139’ 59’ 789 E

6. Chinaman Creek Dam - 3 km south of the Barkly Highway on the west side of Cloncurry. Single lane concrete ramp with bins, toilets, BBQ’s, walking and shaded picnic area. 20’ 42’ 871 S, 140’ 28’ 621 E

8. Flinders Rest Area 2 - 70 km west of Julia Creek, 66 km east of Cloncurry on the Flinders Hwy. Tap water, toilets, bins, shaded picnic area and information. 20’ 38’ 546 S, 141’ 06’ 257 E

9. Maxwelton Rest Area - 52 km west of Richmond, 96 km east of Julia Creek on the Flinders Hwy. Tap water, toilets, bins and shaded picnic area. 20’ 43’ 395 S, 142’ 40’ 676 E

10. Lake Fred Tritton - east side of Richmond. Kids playground, exercise station, bins, shaded picnic tables, electric BBQ’s, 1.2 km paved walking track and bush tucker garden. The ramp is on the opposite side of the dam to the recreation area. Access off Hillier Street. Single lane concrete ramp with pontoon, bins, tap water, toilets and picnic area. 20’44’074 S, 143’08’870 E

11. Flinders Rest Area - 67 km west of Hughenden, 48km east of Richmond on the Flinders Hwy. Toilets, bins, wood BBQ’s, shaded picnic area and lookout. 20’ 51’ 524 S, 143’ 34’ 145 E

12. J.B Memorial Park Rest Area - West side of Hughenden on the Flinders Hwy. Tap water, toilets, bins, cold showers and shaded picnic area. 20’ 50’ 530 S, 144’ 11’ 139 E

13. Mount Walker Lookouts - Standing 480m above sea level the lookouts are 10km south of the Flinders Highway just east of Hughenden (well signposted) 20’ 56’ 523 S, 144’ 11’ 884 E There are a number of lookouts with viewing chairs that provide 360 degree views. You will also find picnic tables if you feel like a picnic lunch or dinner as the sun sets. The road up to the lookouts is unsuitable for caravans.

14. Hughenden Rest Area - East end of Hughenden on the Flinders Hwy. Tap water, toilets, bins, wood BBQ and picnic area. 20’ 50’ 986 S, 144’ 11’ 990 E

15. Flinders Truck Stop - On the Flinders Hwy 33 km south-west of Pentland. Toilet, bins, picnic area and lookout. 20’ 43’ 810 S, 145’ 10’ 957 E

16. White Mountain Lookout Rest Area - Flinders Hwy 108 km E of Hughenden, 28km south-west of Pentland. Great Dividing Range (550m above sea level). Bins, picnic area and lookout. 20’ 42’ 860 S, 145’ 13’ 482 E

17. Fullarton River Rest Area – 48 km south-east of Flinders Highway on the Landsborough Highway. Tap water, toilets, bins, shaded picnic tables and truck stop. 21' 01' 293 S, 140' 56' 424 E.

18. McKinlay Rest Area – 94 km south-east of the Barkly Highway. South of the Landsborough Highway onto Middleton Street, opposite police station. Toilets, bins, wood barbecues, shaded picnic area and kids playground. 21' 16' 422 S, 141' 17' 332 E.

19. Combo Rest Area – 18 km east of Kynuna on the Landsborough Highway. Tap water, toilets, bins, shaded picnic tables and truck stop. 21' 32' 419 S, 142' 04' 602 E.

20. Combo Waterhole Conservation Park – 16 km east of Kynuna off the Landsborough Highway. Turn south off the highway (21' 32' 314 S, 142' 03' 521 E) and follow the road for 8 km to waterhole parking area. 2.6 km return walk to waterhole. Toilets, picnic area and walking track. 21' 36' 061 S, 142' 04' 111 E.

21. Landsborough Highway Rest Area – on the Landsborough Highway 95 km north-west of Winton. Tap water, toilets, bins, shaded picnic area and truck stop. 21' 45' 318 S, 142' 31' 100 E.

22. Landsborough Highway Rest Area 2 – on the Landsborough Highway 66 km north-west of Winton. Bins, shaded picnic tables and truck stop. 21' 58' 270 S, 142' 39' 634 E.

23. Landsborough Highway Rest Area 3 – on the Landsborough Highway 14 km north-west of Winton. Bins, shaded picnic area and truck stop. 21' 19' 021 S, 142' 57' 769 E.

24. Long Waterhole Winton – Central West Camping area 4 km south of Winton. Take Winton - Jundah Road south from Winton for 2 km, turn east onto dirt road and follow for 2 km. No facilities. 22’ 24’ 445 S, 143’ 03’ 313 E

25. Crawford Creek Rest Area – 44 km south-east of Winton on Landsborough Highway. Tap water, toilets, bins, shaded picnic area, camping and truck stop. 22' 33' 403 S, 143' 25' 449 E.

26. Landsborough Highway Rest Area 4 – 56 km south-east of Winton on the Landsborough Highway. Tap water, toilets, bins, shaded picnic area, camping and truck stop. 22' 41' 444 S, 143' 34' 394 E.

27. Morella Rest Area – 109 km south east of Winton on the Landsborough Highway. Tap water, toilets, bins, shaded picnic area, camping and truck stop. 22' 58' 509 S, 143' 51' 583 E.

28. Landsborough Highway Rest Area 6 – 24 km north west of Longreach on the Landsborough Highway. Tap water, toilets, bins, shaded picnic area, camping and truck stop. 23' 16' 576 S, 144' 07' 661 E.

29. Darr River Rest Area – 32 km north west of Longreach. Tracks either side of the bridge, fish for golden perch/yellow belly, barcoo grunter and yabbies along this couple of kilometres stretch of the Darr River. Bins, Central West Camping and fishing. 23' 12' 897 S, 144' 04' 839 E.

30. Apex Riverside Park, Longreach – 1 km east of the Landsborough Highway, 4 km north west of Longreach. Longreach waterhole on the Thompson River. Four night maximum Central West Camping. Tap water, toilets, bins, wood barbecues, shaded picnic area, camping, fishing, information, boat launch and campfires. 23' 24' 637 S, 144' 13' 784 E.

31. Infracombe Rest Area/Heritage Park – on the Landsborough Highway in Infracombe. Toilets, bins, shaded picnic area and information. Dump point at east and of town. 23' 29' 358 S, 144' 30' 438 E.

32. Landsborough Highway Rest Area 7 – on the Landsborough Highway 63 km west of Barcaldine. Tap water, toilets, bins, shaded picnic area and camping. 23' 30' 755 S, 144' 40' 248 E.

33. Packsaddle Creek Rest Area – 30 km west of Barcaldine on the Landsborough Highway. Tap water, toilets, bins, shaded picnic area, Central West Camping and truck stop. 23' 32' 117 S, 144' 59' 710 E.

34. Lloyd Jones Weir Barcaldine – 4 km south of Barcaldine (Landsborough Highway) turn west onto Barcaldine Downs Road and follow for 9 km to the weir, last kilometre unsealed. Tap water, toilets, bins, wood barbecues, shaded picnic area, Central West Camping, dump point, fishing and information. 23' 39' 006 S, 145' 12' 963 E.

35. Barcaldine East Rest Area – Capricorn Highway on the eastern side of town. Shaded picnic table, electric barbecues, toilets, bins. 23' 33' 154 S, 145' 18' 409 E.

36. Jericho Rest Area – on the Capricorn highway in the centre of town. Toilets, shaded picnic table, bins, electric barbecue. 23' 36' 079 S, 146' 07' 252 E.

37. Alpha Rest Area - Capricorn Highway. Shaded picnic tables and toilets. 23’ 39’ 303 S, 146’ 38’ 479 E

38. Belyando River Rest Area/ Historical Site - Capricorn Highway 135km West of Emerald. Shaded picnic table. 23’ 39’ 639 S, 146’ 55’ 848 E

41. Bogantungan Rest Area - 400m off the Capricorn Hwy at Bogantungan (100km west of Emerald). Toilets, tap, public phone, bin and shaded picnic tables. 23’ 38’ 880 S, 147’ 17’ 377 E

42. Bogantungan Rest Area 2 - 1km east of Bogantungan on the Capricorn Highway on. shaded picnic tables & bins. 23’ 39’ 331 S, 147’ 17’ 997 E

43. Anakie Rest Area - 50m south of the Capricorn Hwy on Anakie-Sapphire Rd. Shaded picnic area and toilets. 23’ 32’ 759 S, 147’ 44’ 222 E

44. Sapphire Centenary Park Rest Area - On the southern side of Sapphire. Shaded picnic tables and bins. 23’ 27’ 987 S, 147’ 43’ 412 E Sapphire also has a Central West Camping Reserve ’Big Bessie’ on Rifle Range Road. Camping & fossicking permit required, contact Department of Mines & Energy (Queensland Government)

45. Barcaldine Heavy Vehicle Rest Area – 3 km south of Barcaldine on the Landsborough Highway. Dump on the opposite side of the highway. Tap water, toilets, bins, cold showers, shaded picnic area and truck stop. 23' 35' 475 S, 145' 16' 560 E.

46. Landsborough Highway Rest Area 8 – 28 km south of Barcaldine on the Landsborough Highway. Tap water, toilets, bins, shaded picnic area, camping and truck stop. 23' 48' 079 S, 145' 18' 601 E.

47. Douglas Ponds Creek Rest Area – 23 km north of Blackall on the Landsborough Highway. Bins and shaded picnic area. 24' 16' 620 S, 145' 20' 453 E.

48. Blackall Central West Camping Area – Violet Street, fees apply, maximum three night stay. Toilets, bins, wood barbecues, shaded picnic area, camping and dump point. 24' 25' 484 S, 145' 27' 682 E.

Central West Rest Area 1

49. Blackall Rest Area – 8 kilometres east of Blackall on the Landsborough Highway. Tap water, toilets, bins, shaded picnic area, Central West Camping and truck stop.

50. Barcoo River Rest Area – 40 km east of Blackall on the Landsborough Highway. No Central West Camping unless self-contained toilet unit. Shaded picnic area. 24' 35' 000 S, 145' 48' 624 E.

51. Landsborough Highway Rest Area 9 – 76 km east of Blackall on the Landsborough Highway. Tap water, toilets, bins, wood barbecues, cold showers, shaded picnic area, camping and truck stop. 24' 45' 047 S, 146' 06' 400 E.

54. Augathella North Rest Area – 79 km south of Tambo on the Landsborough Highway. Toilets, bins, shaded picnic area and truck stop. 25' 28' 181 S, 146' 35' 703 E.

55. Morven Recreation Grounds Central West Camping Area – behind waterhole via Victoria Street. Donation box for use, dump point, football field, tennis courts, tap water, toilets, 7 day max stay, bins, hot showers, kids play area. 26' 25' 103 S, 147' 06' 981 E.

56. Sadliers Waterhole and Hamburg Creek – South side of Morven via Victoria Street. Shaded picnic tables and bins overlooking this picturesque waterhole. 26' 25' 053 S, 147' 06' 891 E.

57. Cobb & Co. Rest Area – in Mungallala on the Warrego Highway, 46 km west of Mitchell. Bins, wood barbecue, tap water, toilets. East bank of Mungallala Creek. 26' 26' 735 S, 147' 32' 488 E.

58. Warrego Highway Rest Area – on the Warrego Highway 39 km east of Charleville and 50 km west of Morven. Shaded picnic tables, bins, toilets, fireplace. 26' 24' 845 S, 146' 37' 508 E.

59. Charleville Cosmos Centre – East of the Mitchell Highway onto Qantas Drive (southern side of Charleville). Information centre, Cosmos Observatory (bookings essential), bins, parking. Dump point on Qantas drive just past Observatory turn off. 26' 25' 052 S, 146' 15' 160 E.

60. Graham Andrews Parkland and Recreation Complex, Charleville – on the Mitchell Highway at the southern end of Charleville. Electric barbecues, toilets, shaded picnic tables, tap water, kids playground. 26' 24' 769 S, 146' 14' 769 E.

61. Ward River Boat Ramp and Central West Camping Area – turn right off the Diamantina Development Road 18.3 km west of the Mitchell Highway (North side of Charleville) before crossing the new bridge (26' 29' 518 S, 146' 06' 393 E. T/O), follow for 700 m and turn right 100 m before the old bridge (26' 29' 664 S, 146' 06' 833 E). 100 m dirt Road to ramp. Bins, single lane unsealed ramp, large shady trees. 26' 29' 592 S, 146' 05' 962 E.

62. Wyandra Central West Camping Ground – behind school in Wyandra, north end of Moody Street (off Cooper Street) north western and of town. Donations requested. Maximum three vehicles, maximum two nights stay. Tap water, toilets, bins, wood barbecue, power, flat camping area, shaded picnic tables, hot showers. 27' 14' 634 S, 145' 58' 615 E.

63. Wyandra Truck Stop Rest Area – South end of town on the Mitchell Highway. Toilets, tap water, bins, truck parking. 27' 14' 981 S, 145' 58' 932 E.

64. Carnavon National Park, Salvator Rosa Section – Located between Springsure and Tambo. From Springsure, head 114 km west along Tambo Road to the park turnoff. From Tambo, head 42 km north on the Alpha road then turn east towards Springsure and drive 102 km to the Salvator Rosa turnoff. At the turnoff, drive south for 54 km via ‘Cungelella’ to the campsite. Conventional vehicle access to the Central West camping area, 4WD required inside the park. The access roads become impassable after rain. Walking tracks and camping with no other facilities so campers must be fully self sufficient.

65. Carnavon National Park, Ka Ka Mundi Section – 130 km south-west of Springsure. Head west on the Springsure-Tambo Road for 50km, turn south onto Buckland Road. Well signposted to the park. Conventional access is possible in dry weather. The roads become impassable when wet. Walking tracks and Central West camping with no other facilities so campers must be fully self sufficient.

66. Carnavon National Park, Mt Moffatt Section – 4WD required. 220 km north of Mitchell, 160 km north-west of Injune. Various Central West camping areas, lookouts, walking tracks, BBQ’s, shaded picnic tables, tap water, toilets, information and ranger station.
